Travel Insurance

Gonzaga students may have the opportunity to travel within the United States or abroad by participating in a trip offered through Gonzaga Athletics, Campus Ministry, Global Learning Programs, or other School Department.

Overview

Parents/guardians may be required to pay a cost (trip fee) in order for their son to participate in a school-sponsored trip. If a trip fee is involved, in the case that the trip or any portion of the trip is canceled or disrupted, Gonzaga cannot guarantee that any or all costs associated with the student’s participation in the trip can be refunded.

Travel insurance is coverage designed to protect against risks and financial losses that could happen while traveling or in the event of trip cancellation or disruption. Gonzaga strongly encourages parents to purchase travel insurance for school-sponsored trips that involve a cost. For certain international trips, Gonzaga may require parents to purchase travel insurance.

Gonzaga does not endorse any particular travel insurance provider. However, the school's insurance broker has provided resources regarding coverage for both U.S. and international travel. Please review the information below.

Worldwide Travel Protection Plan (voluntary purchase)

For domestic and international trips, parents may purchase a voluntary Trip Cancellation / Interruption plan, the Academic Explorer Program. This coverage is designed to protect your non-refundable trip expenses should future travel need to be cancelled.

The Academic Explorer Program may also offer the Cancellation for Any Reason (CFAR) and Interruption for Any Reason (IFAR) optional coverages. These optional coverages may reimburse up to 75% of your non-refundable insured trip costs if the trip is cancelled for something outside of a “covered reason” in your policy. Additional terms and costs may apply to these optional coverages, and not all travelers will qualify. Optional CFAR/IFAR are time-sensitive and must be purchased within 15 days of the initial trip payment or deposit.

Claim Information:
If you incurred medical expenses during your time abroad with Gonzaga and would like to file a claim for reimbursement, read below for more information.

Payment of medical expenses is handled differently depending on circumstances and preference of medical providers. Most commonly, you will be expected to pay the bills and then submit a claim to the Claims Administrator for reimbursement of covered expenses. If you are admitted to the hospital or have other extreme circumstances, you may be permitted (or advised) to submit the bills and a claim form to the Administrator and authorize payment of medical benefits directly to the provider. Guarantees of payments direct to providers may be made by AXA Assistance. These are usually for extreme circumstances and are handled on a case by case basis.

Assistance Services are provided by AXA Assistance. In the event of emergency, call 1-800-243-6124 (Toll Free) or 1-202-659-7803 (Call Collect) for 24 hour assistance.

Participants are advised to take a credit card abroad or maintain readily accessible emergency funds of at least US$500 with them in the event that they need to make on-site payment for any medical expenses. Use the links below to file a claim:
