Purple Puck

Gonzaga Hockey is proud to host the 31st Annual National Capital Hockey Tournament, known as the Purple Puck! The Purple Puck is a premier Prep and High School holiday ice hockey tournament hosted in the Washington, DC, region by Gonzaga College High School. This year’s tournament will be held from December 27-29, 2025, at the St. James Health and Fitness Complex in Springfield, Virginia.

Gonzaga will also be hosting our Annual Alumni Game during the tournament on Sunday, December 28 at 1:40pm, registration here

Tournament Details

Now in its 31st year, the Purple Puck regularly draws top-ranked teams from across the United States and Canada and has featured State and Provincial Champion teams from Illinois, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, DC, Texas, Colorado, Quebec and Manitoba.  The tournament features two divisions – Prep and Varsity – and promises great hockey competition, fellowship, and the cultural experience of Washington, DC.  Proceeds from sponsorships help support the Friends of Fort Dupont Ice Arena (FFDIA) and its programs serving the surrounding community in Washington, DC’s Wards 7 and 8.

  • St. Joseph’s Prep, Philadelphia, PA (Prep and Varsity)
  • Archbishop Spalding, Annapolis, MD (Prep and Varsity)
  • St. Joseph’s, Buffalo, NY (Prep)
  • The Hun School, Princeton, NJ (Prep)
  • Jesuit Dallas, Dallas, TX (Prep)
  • Good Counsel, Olney, MD (Varsity)
  • Independence High School, Ashburn, VA

Where: The St James – 6805 Industrial Rd, Springfield, VA 22151
Cost: $1,500 per team
Format: 2 6-team divisions - Prep and Varsity, 4-game guarantee - 3 Round Robin games, Consolation/Semifinal Round, and Tournament Championship
