Speaking Up

Over the course of this academic year, Gonzaga's Speech and Debate Club has competed in five tournaments around the Washington area. With the support of faculty moderator Ms. Kathleen Clark, students have competed in both Speech and Public Forum Debate, including four competitors in Speech (Brendan Kent '27, Nathaniel Ezra '26, Sean Stanton '25, George Koutrouvellis '25) and four two-person teams in Public Forum (Colin Meunier '27 and Ronnie Gardner '27; Brendan Kent '27 and Percy Kyd-Bruneau '26; Ret Baran '25 and George Koutrouvelis '25; and Michael Bicksel '25 and Max Dunn '25).

Congratulations to Nathaniel Ezra and George Koutrouvellis who both individually qualified for the Speech MetroFinal Tournament, which was held on February 24. Nathaniel placed 8th in Oral Interpretation, and George placed 10th in Extemporaneous Speech.

In addition, Michael Bicksel and Max Dunn qualified for the Public Forum MetroFinal Tournament, which was held on March 9; they placed first in the Washington league and will go on to compete at the NCFL Grand National Tournament in Chicago over Memorial Day weekend.
