GDA Actors Nominated as Finalists for the Brandon Victor Dixon Awards

This year the Gonzaga Dramatic Association was one of 12 schools invited to participate in the National Theatre's inaugural Brandon Victor Dixon Awards, a regional partner of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards.

Four of our actors from the Spring production of Into the Woods were honored with nominations for Best Actor and Best Actress: James K. Miller ‘22, J.T. Off ‘22, J.P. Howard ‘24, and Grayson Bullard (Stone Ridge ‘22). All four students were invited to the National Theatre on Saturday, May 21 to participate in a second round of evaluations, as well as workshops on acting and singing with theatre professionals. J.P. Howard was one of five finalists chosen for Best Actor and advanced to the final round of evaluations.

On Sunday, May 22, J.P. and his fellow finalists performed on the National Theatre stage for a panel of judges, members of the participating theatre programs, and the namesake of the award, Brandon Victor Dixon, a Tony, Emmy, and Grammy-Award nominee originally from Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Alek Ludwikowski ’22 and Arturo Soriano ’22 were also invited to represent the GDA by performing in the opening number of the ceremony. Congratulations to all of our actors and to GDA Director and faculty member Kate Griffith on these incredible accomplishments!
