Water Polo Starts Fast and Beats Landon

The Water Polo team faced Landon on November 3rd after the annual Viola-Bartman Cup match was postponed last week. Named after the founding coaches of the schools' respected programs -- Gonzaga Head Coach Joe Viola '83 (Joe Kozik Athletic Hall Fame '05) and former Landon Coach Walt Bartman -- the game has been played since 2005. Gonzaga has won the game every year except in 2019.

The teams faced off at the University of Maryland with no spectators in attendance due to ongoing COVID restrictions. The Eagles got off to a quick start and led 5-1 after the first quarter, en route to a 20-11 victory. Michael McGuckin ’22 led all players with five goals followed Steven Jungers ’22 with four goals and Connor Duffey ’24 three goals. Gonzaga goalie Francis Hendrickson ’23 had a season high 16 blocked shots in net.

The Eagles will finish their season at the Prep Eastern's Championship at The Haverford School outside of Philadelphia this weekend.
