Painting by David Hofmann ’56 Goes Up in the Alumni Art Gallery in Reusch Cantwell

A painter based in Santa Fe, David Hofmann visited Gonzaga last December at the invitation of longtime art teacher Ms. Jenn Carter. “I flew back to Washington and gave an illustrated talk to her very receptive students,” he says. “It was a great experience.”

After the talk, David decided to donate a painting, pictured at right, to Gonzaga. This past week, the painting was hung in the Alumni Art Gallery in Reusch Cantwell.

After graduating from Gonzaga in 1956, Hofmann attended the US Naval Academy, where he earned a B.S. in Engineering. After serving in the Marine Corps, he worked as President and CEO of several public and privately-owned companies. In 2006, he earned a Master of Arts in Liberal Arts from St. John's College in Santa Fe.

“My time in Santa Fe has opened me up to more abstract painting,” he says. “Transitioning from the structured environment of the east has had a freeing effect on my artistic expression. My work, no matter the subject, evolves as I immerse myself in each piece. This is a vehicle of personal artistic growth.”
