New Social Justice Reading Group Holds Event with Loyola Blakefield

Gonzaga's newly formed Social Justice Reading Group held a virtual discussion with students and faculty from Loyola Blakefield, an all-boys, Jesuit high school in Towson, Maryland, on Friday, October 16. Students and faculty from both schools read the book This Book is Anti-Racist by Tiffany Jewell and Aurelia Durand.

"The students engaged in very powerful, honest, and brave conversations about the need for action in combating racism and microaggressions," says Gonzaga Religion Teacher Mrs. Shannon Berry, who moderates the club along with Art Teacher Mr. Ciaran Freeman. "They asked honest and thoughtful questions and listened to one another in generous and profound ways."

The two schools plan to meet regularly throughout the year. The Gonzaga students who participated are Jack Wood '21, Will Thompson '21, Sarkis Pakhchanian '21, Austin Zeiller '22, and Grant Touchette '22.
