Gonzaga Hosts Extracurricular Activities Fairs

This week, Gonzaga hosted several opportunities for students--and in particular freshmen--to learn more about the extracurricular activities they can participate in on Eye Street.

On Monday and Tuesday evenings, the Athletic Department organized a series of Meet and Greet Zoom calls where freshmen could pop in to meet a sport's varsity head coach as well as several members of the current team. “The participation was fantastic," says Athletic Director Joe Reyda '85.  "We had over 25 head coaches and assistant coaches, over 50 current players, and over half of the freshman class who signed on for one or more sports. We felt this was a great way to meet the freshmen and answer any questions that they might have as we continue to hope for a start of athletic competition in the future.”

In addition, Wednesday's G Day was set aside as a Virtual Student Clubs and Activities Fair. Faculty moderators and student leaders of more than 50 clubs on campus--from Model UN and The Aquilian to the Video Game Club and the Gonzaga Dramatic Association--hosted Zoom calls where students from every grade could drop in, ask questions, and learn more about clubs they are interested in joining.

"Club life is an integral part of the Gonzaga student experience and allows students to foster friendships across grade levels and with others with similar interests," says Dean of Students Mr. Jim Kilroy. "Despite virtual learning, our clubs have still managed to host regular events and add membership. Moving forward, clubs will be able to utilize the co-curricular period at the end of each hybrid day, so we look forward to seeing them in action on campus again!"
