New School Year Begins!

The first week of school on Eye Street has been both spiritual and spirited. Faculty and staff started their year with a Community Day of Prayer on Monday, which included prayer, small group conversations, Mass and fellowship. They reflected on the theme ‘Rooted in Care, Called to Serve’ and considered how the Jesuit ideal of cura personalis – care for the whole person – guides their work as educators, mentors and colleagues.

After a day of faculty and staff meetings on Tuesday, sophomores and juniors were on campus for orientation on Wednesday, and that evening hundreds of new families were warmly greeted for a picnic on Buchanan Field. On Thursday, the Class of 2026 had the opportunity to welcome the Class of 2029 with a fun tradition known as the clap-in, where the seniors line both sides of Eye Street to welcome their newest Gonzaga brothers.

On Friday, the student body, faculty and staff celebrated the annual Mass of the Holy Spirit, a centuries-old tradition which marks the beginning of a new academic year at Jesuit schools. Students then attended all eight classes to meet their teachers and prepare for a successful semester ahead.

We hope you enjoy these two albums of photos, and we look forward to a wonderful year to come!
