Welcome New Faculty and Staff!

Gonzaga is excited to welcome five new faculty and staff members to the community this fall. This past week, these new teachers and staff members spent a few days getting to know one another and Gonzaga during orientation. In addition, the four young alumni who will be serving in the Alumni Service Corps joined the orientation. Teaching Faculty

Thomas Deutsch
Religion Teacher
Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri
With numerous academic degrees, including a PhD in Systematic Theology from Catholic University, Dr. Deutsch has taught religion in the DC area for many years, including at DeMatha and Holy Child, and served as a teaching assistant and teaching fellow at Catholic University. He looks forward to experiencing Ignatian retreats and spirituality, and is eager for the school year to begin. “I love teaching my subject and seeing my students get excited about it, too.”

Aidan Doyle
Math Teacher
Hometown: Buffalo, New York
Educated at Jesuit institutions and having taught math for two years at Cristo Rey High School in Sacramento, California, Mr. Doyle feels fortunate to continue his journey at Gonzaga. “I love seeing students' personal and academic growth over time. High school comes at a very transformative age, and the difference between freshman year and senior year can be very dramatic. It's such an honor to accompany students on their journey as they become men for and with others.”

Carlos Parra
Spanish Teacher
Hometown: Maracaibo, Venezuela
Dr. Parra holds a number of advanced degrees, including a PhD in History and Philosophy of Education. He has taught in school, university, corporate, non-profit, and government settings. “For me, teaching is not only a profession, but a vocation and a transformative mission. I feel strongly identified with educating the whole person and particularly cultivating the interior life and the values of justice, peace, love, and compassion in the world.”

Loic Sangwa
Health Teacher and Freshmen Foundations Coordinator
Hometown: Silver Spring, Maryland
An alumnus from the Class of 2019 and a captain on Gonzaga’s 2018 championship football team, Mr. Sangwa is thrilled to be back on Eye Street. “I am looking forward to coming back to Gonzaga and being part of the loving and transformative community that is its faculty. I look forward to helping freshmen make a smooth transition to our school; I am also looking forward to helping set them up for future academic and, hopefully, lifelong success.”

Staff

Keith Urgo
Assistant Athletic Director For Service and Education and Head Basketball Coach
Hometown: Potomac, Maryland
A proud 1997 Gonzaga alumnus, Coach Urgo is honored to return to Eye Street after decades instructing Division 1 college basketball teams, including most recently as Head Coach at Fordham University. “Coaching to me is a vehicle to create change and make an impact by way of service. The opportunity to help mold boys into Men for Others is a privilege, and to be able to do it at a place with such great pride in its traditions is very rare. To have a chance to lead this historic program is such an incredible honor.”
