Cross Country's Capuano Named Gatorade Player of the Year, Ausema Earns Two Coach of the Year Awards

Cullen Capuano '20 has been named the 2019 Gatorade District Of Columbia Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year! The team had another amazing year, winning three championships. Capuano is the fourth winner for Gonzaga Cross Country in recent history. The previous Eagle runners to earn the honor were Mike Crozier '12 (2011), Harry Monroe '17 (2016), and Gavin McElhennon '20 (2017).

Additionally, Head Cross Country Coach John Ausema was named the USTFCCCA District of Columbia Coach of the Year for the fifth straight time, as well as the NFHS Mideast Section Coach of the Year. In 2017 and 2018, Coach Ausema earned NFHS DC Coach of the Year; but in 2019, his award covers DE, DC, KT, MD, OH, PA, VA, and WV. Honorees were selected based upon their performance in 2019, lifetime community involvement, school involvement and philosphy of coaching.
