Gonzaga Community Celebrates the Start of Lent

To celebrate the beginning of the Lenten season, Campus Ministry invited students and faculty to write a petition on a purple ribbon. These ribbons, which now hang throughout the Arrupe Commons, create a visual reminder of our community’s reflections and intentions as we begin our preparations for Holy Week. Students wrote about remembering the poor and homeless, honoring grandparents, supporting those who struggle with mental illness, and more.
 
On Wednesday, March 6, the whole community gathered for Ash Wednesday Mass in St. Aloysius Church. Rev. Jerry O’Connor, S.J., a religion teacher at Gonzaga, presided over the Mass, reminding the students to approach their intentions this season with humility and compassion.
