Four Students Win Parkmont Poetry Prize

Held every Spring, the Parkmont Poetry Festival celebrates the creativity of the District of Columbia’s student poets. As the Festival’s website puts it: “We honor the promise of diverse young writers, the importance of reflection, the value of community, and the beauty of language.”

The contest is open to students in grades 6-12 from public, private, and charter schools throughout the District. This year’s competition drew more than 400 submissions from over 40 schools.

Congratulations to the four Gonzaga students who were named winners: Winston Leslie '18 for “Monday Mornings: Me and Mom;” Jefferson Ascencio '18 for “Elegy for Forgotten Memories;" Lucas Scheider Galinanes '19 for “Desert(ed);” and Aaron Douoguih '18 for “A Love Song For The Others.”

In addition to receiving a small cash prize, the students’ poems were published in a book by the Parkmont School.

Congratulations to the winners!
