Generosity Set in Stone
Over the summer of 2024, the gate between St. Aloysius Church and Cantwell Hall was renamed and dedicated as the Alumni Gate, in gratitude for the generosity of those Gonzaga classes that have created endowed scholarships to support tuition assistance here on Eye Street.
The Gonzaga Advancement Office chose this particular gate to create the tribute because of its symbolic meaning: Students pass through the gate on their way to their Commencement ceremony, walking through it for the last time as students before emerging after graduation from St. Aloysius Church as alumni.
A “Walk of Honor” approaching the gate has been inlaid with stones recognizing those classes – 25 so far – that have established endowed scholarship funds. “Gonzaga is only as strong as our culture of philanthropy,” says Senior Vice President of Alumni and Advancement David Dugan ‘98. “And by creating scholarship funds that support Gonzaga students in perpetuity, these classes have set an extraordinary example for other classes to follow. We are profoundly grateful for their leadership and generosity.”
Endowed class funds with a balance of at least $250,000 are recognized on the Walk of Honor. For more information on how you or your class can establish an endowed fund to support Gonzaga, contact David Dugan at
