Ivan Hughes '25 Named DC Soccer Gatorade Player of the Year

Congratulations to senior soccer player Ivan Hughes '25 for being named the 2024-2025 Gatorade District of Columbia Player of the Year! The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. Hughes is the tenth Gonzaga soccer player to earn this prestigious honor. He led the Eagles to a 22-0-2 record and both the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and the DCSAA tournament championship this past season scoring 21 goals and passing for eight assists. He finished his career with 32 goals and 15 assists, and earned both the the WCAC and Washington Post All-Met Player of the Year awards. Here are are a few of his goals from the fall: 
Hughes finished with a 4.32 GPA in the classroom and has been accepted to Emory University (Ga.), where he intends to play soccer. He will take a gap year, however, and has deferred enrollment in order to spend a year in Europe to pursue soccer opportunities.
