Football Beats Carroll, Set to Face Benedictine in Richmond

On Friday, September 18, Gonzaga defeated Archbishop Carroll 47–27 under the lights on Buchanan Field to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Senior wide receiver Lincoln Shelton ’27 earned DC Touchdown Club WCAC Player of the Week honors after catching two passes for 63 yards, rushing for a 46-yard touchdown, and returning a punt 53 yards for a score. Linebacker Jago Woodards ’27, who earned the same award in Week Three, recovered a fumble and made several key stops against the Lions' running game. Also on defense, cornerback CJ Simms ’28 returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown.

Running back Asheton Burton reached paydirt on a 15-yard catch-and-run from quarterback Nick Ferrante ’28 to start the scoring in the first quarter, and he added touchdown runs of 45 and 5 yards before halftime. Late in the third quarter, Ferrante found junior wide receiver Colin Lopes on a 66-yard touchdown pass to put the game out of Carroll's reach.
