On Thursday, May 7, the team won the DCSAA Championship at the historic Langston Golf Course in NE Washington, DC with a cumulative score of +4 (292) to finish ahead of St. Alban's (316) and Sidwell Friends (323) on a beautiful day.

Jake Lopes and Matt Delpizzo tied again by both shooting one-under-par 71's; both birdied the first playoff hole; and Jake won on the second playoff hole with a 10-foot birdie. Additionally, Jack Kelley and Owen Modlin finished the tournament tied for fourth place with a three-over-75 to round out the scoring for the Eagles, and Mac Lugar shot five-over 77 to finish in seventh place. "I'm extremely proud of all the guys," said head coach Mike Hanangan '08. "It was amazing to watch both days to end in the exact same way, that will likely never happen again."

In addition to the success on the course, Gonzaga's DC History class visited the course to root on their classmates and learn about the historic site. During the visit, the students heard from a longtime steward of the property and unexpectedly had the opportunity to meet Mr. Tony Lewis Sr., father of Gonzaga Alumnus and DC activist Tony Lewis Jr. ‘98. According to teacher Devon Leary '06, "The visit brought DC history to life, connecting students to powerful stories of resilience, justice, community, and legacy in their own city... and we got to see our championship golf team in action!"

Next up for the team is Metro Championship on Wednesday May 13 at Manor Country Club in Rockville, MD. Follow the team on Instagram here.
