Each spring, the Gonzaga English department hosts the Martin and Patrick O’Donoghue Oratorical Contest, an annual speech competition for the entire student body. Students first present speeches in their English class; the winner from each section advances to the finals for their class year, and finalists give speeches in Sheehy Theater before their classmates and a panel of faculty judges.
