Nyk Lewis '25 and Derek Dixon '25 Meet in the NCAA Tournament
Former classmates and teammates, Derek Dixon '25 (University of North Carolina) and Nyk Lewis '25 (Virginia Commonwealth University) faced off in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday, March 19.
The former Eagles guarded each other for much of the night in what turned out to be a thrilling come-from-behind overtime win for Lewis's Rams. Dixon's Tar Heels led by as much as 17 points in the second half, but VCU clawed their way back after a 12-0 run with about 6 minutes left in the game that included a great three point play from Nyk. On the next possession, Derek helped UNC regain their footing with a mid range jumper:
Lewis finished with 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals while Dixon had 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists. Nyk was 6-7 from the free throw line, and sealed the victory in overtime by making his final two attempts. VCU's next game is on Saturday, March 21 at 7:50pm on CBS.
