Gonzaga Sports Program Earns Top Ranking by Washington Post
On Sunday, July 16, the Washington Post published a ranking of high school sports programs in the area, recognizing Gonzaga as the region’s top boys private school athletic program during the 2022-2023 school year. “Hail Gonzaga,” the story said. “The Northwest D.C. school was competitive in just about every sport, even in the ever-competitive WCAC.” Click here to read the entire article.
Gonzaga edged St. John's by earning 126 points from All-Met selections, including one Player of the Year (soccer's Daniel Bollman '26), two Coach of the Year selections (swimming's Brian Kilner '16 and crew's Tom Daley), 12 first-teamers, four second-teamers and 24 honorable mentions. Additionally, the Eagles were credited with 120 points for team postseason accolades (four championships and four runner-up finishes) and 77 points for earning top rankings at the end of their seasons (No. 1 in boys' soccer, No. 5 in boys' lacrosse and ice hockey, No. 7 in boys' basketball and No. 10 in wrestling).
The honor is a fitting tribute to the program that late Athletic Director Joe Reyda ‘85 oversaw, supported, and helped to build over his 22 years leading the department.
