Meet the Coaches: Track & Field Head Coach Alvin Maddox
In this week’s Meet the Coaches interview we visit with Varsity Track Head Coach Alvin Maddox! Coach Maddox is in his 40th year serving as a Health and Physical Education Teacher and coach on Eye Street. He was inducted into the Gonzaga Athletic Hall of Fame three times: in 2012 as an individual, and in 2019 as Offensive Coordinator of the 2002 WCAC Football Championship team, as well as the Head Coach of the 1987 WMAC Track & Field Championship team. Overall for indoor and outdoor track, he has lead the Eagles to a total of 16 championships (6 WMACs, 5 WCACs, and 5 DCSAAs) and he has been named Washington Post Coach of the Year.
In the video below, Coach Maddox shares about his belief in discipline, explains how he has approached building his athletes throughout the year from November to June, shares his favorite moments on Eye Street, and more. Enjoy the fun conversation and learn a little about what has made this legend a mentor to thousands of Eagles over his time on Eye Street.
Thanks for tuning in for this weekly video series! In the weeks ahead, we will continue to post them as news stories as well as on our Gonzaga Sports Facebook and Gonzaga Sports Instagram feeds.
