Basketball Coach Steve Turner Honored at Awards Dinner

On Thursday, October 12, Basketball Coach Steve Turner was recognized during the 2017 Nell and John Wooden Leadership in Coaching Awards Dinner at the Watergate Hotel in DC. Named after UCLA basketball coach John Wooden and his wife, Nell, the award was created in 2012 to recognize college coaches who exemplify Wooden’s “Pyramid of Success” teachings both on and off the court. For the first time, the 2017 event also recognized DC-area high school coaches.

This year, in addition to Coach Turner, the dinner honored Roy Williams, University of North Carolina men’s basketball coach; Brian Boland, USTA head of men's tennis player development and former four-time national champion at University of Virginia; and Jonathan Scribner, head coach of the girls basketball team at St. John’s. Past winners of the award include Jim Boeheim (Syracuse University), Dale Brown (Louisiana State University), John Calipari (University of Kentucky), and Mike Krzyzewski (Duke University).

Congratulations to Coach Turner on a well-deserved honor!
