Football Beats Benedictine, Set to Host Malvern Prep
Gonzaga defeated Benedictine 21–14 in Richmond, VA, on Friday, September 25. On a crisp afternoon, the host Cadets challenged the Eagles every step of the way and led 14–13 midway through the third quarter. But the Eagles prevailed behind a third-quarter, 35-yard touchdown pass from Nick Ferrante '27 to Jelani Shabazz '28 and a great fourth-quarter defensive performance.
Senior running back Asheton Burton scored on a 65-yard catch-and-run, while Jago Woodards '27 punched in a six-yard run. The defense was led by senior defensive tackle Tyler Frederick, who had a timely sack and a tackle for loss, and by sophomore cornerback CJ Simms Jr., who made a number of key tackles. Long snapper Gabriel Galdibini '27 was flawless on special teams and made a big tackle in punt coverage.
Here are some great highlights from the win:
The Eagles are 5–0 this season and are set to host Malvern Prep (PA) this Friday at 6:30 PM.
