Football Gets Inaugural Win on Newly Renovated Buchanan Field

Gonzaga's home opener last Friday began with a moment of silence in honor of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, as well as a blessing of the newly renovated Buchanan Field and purple track by Father Lingan. Thomas Buchanan, Jr. '07 was present to represent his family and to be the special guest at the coin toss. 

Following the ceremony, Varsity Football continued its hot start to the 2026 season. The Eastern Ramblers kept the game tied 0-0 late into the second quarter when senior quarterback Jason Lindsay went down with an injury. Backup quarterback Nick Ferrante '27 filled in and the Eagles got on the board just before halftime with a field goal by Quinn Maguire '28. 

After a scoreless third quarter, with Gonzaga clinging to its 3-0 lead, Ferrante found senior wide receiver Lincoln Shelton for a 6-yard touchdown pass. Following a defensive stop, senior running back Asheton Burton scored on a 23-yard run and tacked on the two-point conversion to seal the 18-0 win with under four minutes to play. Defensively, senior linebacker Luke Hodgkinson had an early interception while fellow linebacker Jago Woodards '27 led the team with double digit tackles.
