Nick Morabito ’22 Makes MLB Debut at Nationals Park

Gonzaga alumnus Nick Morabito '22 was called up by the New York Mets to make his Major League Baseball debut this week against the Washington Nationals. In this article from MLB.com, Nick said, "I grew up coming to this park, so it’s a pretty surreal moment for me. Just to be here, it’s very special."

To Gonzaga's knowledge, Nick is the first graduate to play in the majors since Thomas Aloysius Cantwell played for the Cincinnati Reds in 1909 and 1910. Here is a great interview with Nick before his debut:

Nick was drafted by the New York Mets in the second round of the MLB draft in 2022. During his senior year on Eye Street, he played an integral role in Gonzaga's first WCAC baseball championship win in over twenty years and earned the 2021-22 Gatorade District of Columbia Player of the Year.

Off the field, he attended Kairos in 2021, where he was in the same small group as Gonzaga President Joe Lingan. Father Lingan and Nick have stayed friendly in the years since his graduation, and were able to share a quick hello after the Mets win on Thursday night:
