Golf Program Has Two Hole in Ones in Three Days

According to the National Hole-in-One Registry, “the odds of the average golfer making a hole-in-one are 12,500 to 1." The Registry continues, “Each year there are 450 million rounds of golf played in the U.S., which is approximately 25,000-30,000 per course. Each course reports between 10-15 aces per year. Basically, that means a hole-in-one is scored once in every 3,500 rounds.“

Gonzaga Golf aced two holes-in-one this week!

"It was amazing," said Head Golf Coach Mike Hanagan '08. "To think, we've never had one, and we had two in three days! And from about the same distance, with the same club -- just unbelievable."

In over 80 years of Gonzaga Golf, the program has no documentation of ever recording a hole-in-one in competition. This week, Gonzaga Golf has two in three days:

Charlie Gallagher '24
Monday 5/2/22 vs. Georgetown Prep JV
East Potomac Blue Course
Hole #8 - 196 yards - 6 iron
Gonzaga won the match 198-211

Jack Teuschl '23
Wednesday 5/4/22 vs Paul VI
Army Navy Arlington (Blue)
Hole #2 - 200 yards - 6 iron
Gonzaga won the match 7-2

Varsity Golf is now a perfect 13-0 on the year. Next up, they will compete in the WCAC Championship at Northwest Golf Course on Monday, May 9th.

If anyone is aware of another hole-in-one for Gonzaga in competition of the years, please let us know!
