Gonzaga Performs Well at Ivy League Model UN Conference

Last weekend, 29 Gonzaga students traveled to Philadelphia for the Ivy League Model UN Conference (ILMUNC), braving a blizzard to face over 1,400 competitors from around the country.

After a long interruption in competitions due to Covid, the club was thrilled with its performance, with 19 out of 29 students bringing home awards in committees on climate, refugees, international security, and trade.

A special congratulations to these awardees: Guyer Kopplin '22, August van Geertruyden '23, Matias Camp '22, Charlie Meyer '22, Zachari Taylor '23, Jackson Taylor '23, John Ferrara '22, Matthew Dowd '22, Max Dunn '25, Michael Bicksel '25, JP Felmlee '22, Anderson Harlor '25, Joe Campione '24, Aakash Hill '25, Hayden Wierzba '25, James Miller '22, Ian Christensen '22, Luke Farren '22, and Michael Salemme '25.

During downtime on the trip, the group had the chance to visit numerous historical sites from the Revolution, including the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

Club moderator Mr. Carl Cardozo says that throughout the weekend, the students embraced a desire for peace through diplomacy and discussion. "One of the things that seperates Model UN from debate teams is the need for compromise and consensus - admitting that you alone are not enough to solve the problem, that listening is as important as speaking sometimes," he said.

Congratulations to all on a great weekend!
