Football Program Holds Event on Buchanan Field

On Saturday, August 8, Gonzaga’s Football Program hosted a socially distanced event called Gonzaga Football Family Huddle-Up on Buchanan Field.

The day-long event gave students the chance to come down to Gonzaga in small groups to capture photos and videos, celebrate the work the program has done virtually since March, and see one another in-person for the first time in months.

Throughout the course of the day, more than 100 members of the Gonzaga football family came down to Eye Street. Everything about the day was carefully planned and orchestrated in advance, with players arriving at specific times to move through a series of experiences that were set up and spaced out on Buchanan Field.

"We were excited to have our first co-curricular event this past weekend," says Headmaster Mr. Tom Every. "The football program demonstrated how well the Gonzaga community can rise to the challenges before us by following all important health and safety protocols, but still having a good time and giving the guys much-needed connection to their team and school. I am energized by Coach Trivers' work to build a model that other co-curriculars can look to for inspiration. What group could have been better equipped to 'block and tackle' the many constraints but come out victorious?! Go Eagles!"

"There was recognition, photos, videos, words of devotion and prayer, smiles, laughs, and maybe a few tears of joy," says Head Football Coach Randy Trivers. "It was indeed a day to be remembered!"
