Swim and Dive Wins Catholic Nationals to Begin Championship Season

Congratulations to the Swimming and Diving Eagles on winning the 2020 National Catholic Championship on January 19 at Loyola University. 

The 200 Medley Relay finished second overall and set a new school record with a time of 1:33.04; the team was made up Ryan Catron '20, Mac Marsh '22, Matthew Pottker '20, and Hayes Goetcheus '22. The 200 Free Relay won first and set the new meet record with a time of 1:24.75; the team was made up of Mac Marsh '22, Pottker, Goetcheus '20, and Ollie Bernasek '20. Both the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay achieved automatic All American times. Additionally, the Eagles won the 400 free relay.

Head Coach Kevin Wagman was voted the 2019-2020 National Catholic swim coach of the year. "In finals all the boys held their prelim rank or bettered it, with all swimmers dropping time," said Coach Wagman. Collin McKenzie '22 and Catron placed third and fourth in 200 IM while Bernasek finished fourth in 200 and 100 free. Marsh won the 50 freestyle; Pottker and JT Ewing '22 finished second and third in 100 butterfly; Ewing and Catron finished second and fourth in the 100 backstroke; and McKenzie and Marsh finished fourth and fifth in 100 breaststroke.
 
The Eagles have two meets left: the WCAC Championships on January 25 at Wakefield High School and the WMPSSDL Championships on February 1 at Fairland Sports and Aquatics Center in Laurel, MD.
