New Orleans Service Trip—Enjoy the Photos!

From June 10 to June 16, twelve rising seniors visited the St. Bernard Parish of New Orleans to learn about social injustices in the city. The group worked with the St. Bernard Project to rebuild houses in the parish, a blue-collar fishing neighborhood that was hit particularly hard by Hurricane Katrina.

Students also had the chance to talk with community members to learn about the rebuilding process after Hurricane Katrina hit, and why systems of injustice have been a roadblock in helping the city get back on its feet. The group was able to take a tour of the Whitney Plantation, to learn of the racial injustices that are deeply rooted in the history of the city, and also shared dinner with Fr. Fred Kamer, SJ, who offered more insight about the work still to be done in New Orleans. In addition, the team was able to take in some sights downtown and enjoy Mass at Immaculate Conception, a Jesuit parish.

We hope you enjoy these great pictures from the trip!
