Father-Son-Faculty Communion Breakfast—Enjoy the Photos!

One of Gonzaga’s most beloved traditions, the Father-Son-Faculty Communion Breakfast took place on Sunday, May 6. The day began with Mass in St. Aloysius Church, followed by brunch at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, where retired USAF colonel and NASA astronaut Benjamin Alvin Drew, Jr. ’80 was the keynote speaker. Colonel Drew was a crew member on two Space Shuttle missions and also accumulated more than 3,500 hours of flying experience with 30 different types of aircraft.

General John Michael Loh ’56 was recognized as the Alumni Man of the Year. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, General Loh spent 35 years in the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of four-star general. He spent his career in the Air Force in combat operations, flying fighter aircraft, and in the research and development commands of the Air Force. He also earned a master’s degree from MIT in Aeronautics. Genreal Loh flew 200 combat missions in the Vietnam War and accumulated more than 4,000 flying hours, mostly in fighter aircraft, during his career. He was the Air Force Vice Chief of staff during the first Gulf War, Desert Storm; the commander of both Tactical Air Command and Air Combat Command and Commander of the Air Force Aeronautical Systems Command responsible for research and development of Air Force aircraft.

The Father Novotny Service Award was given to Tom Kivlan ’61, in recognition of his efforts and service as a Man for Others. An international consultant, Kivlan has worked in nearly all parts of the developing world for private and public sector clients in programs designed to promote improved economic well-being or help communities recover from civil conflict or natural disasters.

Congratulations to all three of these distinguished alumni! We hope you enjoy these wonderful photos from the day.
