Baseball Beats No. 2 St. John's

The varsity baseball Eagles have had a busy week, playing three games in three days.  The highlight of the week came on Tuesday, April 10 as the team defeated St. John's (ranked #2 by the Washington Post), 4-2 with a come-from-behind victory in the last inning. Down to their final two outs of the game, Gonzaga trailed 2-0, when Jacob Hardney '18 reached first base on an error. Patrick Crockett '18 walked and was pinch ran for by Jack Quimby '19. Shane Tomb '19 then reached first base on an error as well, which allowed Hardney to score the Eagles first run. Pinch hitter Nick Lynch '18 hit an infield single to load the bases and Joe Manley '19 knocked in two runs to take the lead. Pinch hitter Brian Harrs '19 singled in the 4th run on the next pitch.

Nick Escoto '18, player of the game, was on the mound for Gonzaga. He surrendered two unearned runs on three hits over five and a third innings, striking out three. Jack Ewald recorded two outs in the sixth and Anthony Seiler came in to close out the seventh inning by recording three outs on five pitches, earning him a save.

The Eagles faced tough Paul VI and St. Mary's Ryken squads at home on Wednesday and Thursday.  The team dropped both games, but looks to bounce back on Saturday, April 14 at Paul VI at 11am.
