News of Alumni: Benjamin Alvin Drew ’80

Retired USAF colonel and NASA astronaut Benjamin Alvin Drew, Jr. ’80 will be the keynote speaker at the annual Father-Son-Faculty Communion Breakfast on May 6.

Colonel Drew, who retired from the Air Force in September 2010, logged more than 600 hours in space on Space Shuttles Endeavour and Discovery. He flew on mission STS-118 on Space Shuttle Endeavour in August 2007 and mission STS-133 on Space Shuttle Discovery in February and March 2010. Colonel Drew visited Gonzaga in 2008 and talked with students about his experiences as part of STS-118. As an Air Force pilot, he flew 30 different types of aircraft and accumulated over 3,500 hours of flying experience.
