Gonzaga Marches in MLK Day Parade

A group of Gonzaga students, faculty, and alumni participated in the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Walk and Parade on Monday, January 18. Organized by the Coalition for Peace, a group of individuals and nonprofits dedicated to peace and positivity in the Washington area, the walk symbolizes the need to continue Dr. King’s work.

James Washington '19, Marcus Stackhouse '19, Devon Leary '06, Dana Leary '03, Milton Yates '97, Tony Lewis '98, and Stephen Szolosi, Gonzaga’s Director of Campus Ministry, participated in the walk. Lewis, a community activist, served as Grand Marshall of the event.

“So many different people came together to celebrate the progress made in our country behind the leadership of inspirational people like Dr. King,” said Devon Leary ‘06, assistant dean of students and moderator of Gonzaga’s ONYX club. “Our students couldn't help but internalize how relevant Dr. King’s messages are today, as too many Americans are still pained by hate speech and racism. It was an incredible experience and a great day to be an American.”
