Football Beats Friendship in OT Thriller, DeMatha is Next
The Washington Post
read: "Gonzaga makes the big play to beat Friendship Collegiate in overtime" after the Eagles thrilling win on Friday, September 29 in front of a great Friday night Eye Street crowd under the lights. “The word of the week was ‘finish,’ ” Gonzaga Head Coach Randy Trivers said. “… We were able to win the last play of the game and seal it. … But I told the kids, it’s not really the last play of the game as much as it’s all the things that lead up to it.” Click here

The Eagles were led once again by senior captain David McMorris who made big plays all night on the defensive side of the ball. Lincoln Fisher '25 played great offensively, scoring on a 48 yard touchdown just before the end of the first half to give Gonzaga a 13-7 lead at the break. On special teams, Rocco Williams '26 did a great job on a number of units including the Eagles' extra point block team. Friendship tied the game late in the 4th quarter, 13-13, but Williams and his teammates forced Friendship to miss their extra point attempt (twice due to a penalty on Gonzaga) resulting in the overtime period.
In the overtime, each team was awarded a possession from the 25 yard line per high school football rules. Gonzaga took possession first and their offensive drive resulted in a 30 yard field goal by John Holley '25. Friendship took the ball and threatened to end the game with a touchdown as they drove to the Gonzaga four yard line. After a delay of game penalty on the Knights on 4th down, Gonzaga's Tyson Harley '26 intercepted the ball to end the game. Here are some of the biggest plays of the night and the post game celebration:
