News of Alumni: Brendan O'Neill '60

Sculptor Brendan O'Neill '60 recently traveled to the Choctaw Nation Reservation in Durant, Oklahoma to install a sculpture that he created for the Choctaw Nation as a gift.

The sculpture, which now stands in the Choctaw Cultural Center, represents the bond between the Choctaw Nation and the Irish people -- a bond that dates back to 1847 when the Choctaw Nation sent money to Ireland during the potato famine.

You can learn more about this unlikely and  enduring friendship by reading this article from Smithsonian Magazine.
