Cross Country Wins Second Straight WCAC Title

Congratulations to the varsity Cross Country Eagles who won their second consecutive WCAC Championship on Saturday, October 27 at Bull Run Regional Park. The Eagles finished 15 points ahead of second place St. John’s. Juniors Gavin McElhennon and Cullen Capuano finished in second and third place respectively.  Click here for complete results.

All-conference honors go to runners who finish in the top 12.  In addition to McElhennon and Capuano, three Gonzaga runners made all-conderence: Patrick Donnelly '21 (8th), David Giannini '19 (9th), and Luke Francese '20 (12th).  In the JV race, medals went to Luke Giannini '21, Jack Doolin '21, and Peter Lerardi '19.  In the freshman race, Ethan Norman '22 earned a third place medal and Quinn Kirchner '22 finished fifth. 
 
The team has won the WCAC conference six times since 2008, in addition to five second-place finishes. “We’ve got an atmosphere that we’ve built in our program that is just about working hard,” Coach John Ausema told the Washington Post. “So once you have the momentum of a few guys that take it seriously, they tend to bring everyone else along.” Read the entire article here.

Best of luck to the team in this weekend's DC Championships at Kenilworth Park; parking is located at 4200 Anacostia Ave NE.  The JV race is set for 11:35 AM abd the Varsity race is set for 12:45 PM.
