Freshman Virtual Learn to Row Camp

Gonzaga's Crew program usually holds a 5-day Learn-To-Row (LTR) Camp in late July open to all incoming freshmen.  This year however, due to COVID-19 concerns, LTR cannot be held in its traditional form in July. Instead, this year, the coaching staff will host a Zoom meeting on Tuesday, August 4 at 8:00pm open to all Gonzaga Freshmen interested in learning more about our program.

We will introduce the attendees to the coaching staff, Freshman and Varsity, show a recently-produced video about the history of Gonzaga Rowing, have a couple of seniors tell of their experiences on the team and then open it up for questions and describe next steps in the highly unique environment of Fall 2020. The entire meeting should not last more than an hour.

We feel it is important to acknowledge that the crew season may not come to fruition, but if it is allowed based on prevailing health guidance, we will have a safe plan in place.

    Mass of the Holy Spirit

    Virtual
Please join us Sunday, August 23rd at 10:00 am for the Mass of the Holy Spirit, celebrated by Gonzaga President Fr. Stephen Planning.

The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a celebratory welcome to the new school year and connects Gonzaga to a tradition across Jesuit  institutions. We gather to call on God’s Spirit for inspiration in the upcoming academic year. The entire school community is invited to pray together, celebrate the Spirit and rededicate ourselves to Gonzaga's mission and community.

    Virtual
    Seniors:
The Common Application/ Naviance Workshops will cover information instructing students in how to navigate their Navinace account - how to build and eventually create their college list, how to complete the FERPA authorization and how to navigate useful data when creating a college list.

The Workshop will also complement the work from this past summer’s six virtual Common Application workshops.  It will allow Gonzaga seniors to speak one on one with a Gonzaga College Counselor as they work on their applications.

  • College Counseling Senior Parent Night

    Virtual
The purpose of the four Senior Parent Nights is:

    · To provide four nights, identical in content/ information, so parents can chose one out of the four nights to work with their work/family schedules.

    · To convey important information to parents of seniors about the admission process, Gonzaga College Counseling deadlines, and the “admission process.”

    · To review the landscape of undergraduate admissions in midst of the pandemic.

o How will colleges review applications with a test optional policy?

o “My son’s testing administration keeps on getting cancelled - what do we do?”

o "My son, like so many others, could not pursue clubs, activities, theater, sports, internships, jobs because of the pandemic. This type of participation is important to colleges in their admissions review. How will this work this year?"

o "If demonstrated interest plays a role in the admissions process - how can my son show demonstrated interest when he is not allowed to visit colleges due to the pandemic?”

o "How will colleges know that my son worked hard during the pandemic as Gonzaga distance learning worked well? Gonzaga students were (and are) being held accountable compared to other private schools and school districts. How will this information be communicated to college admission offices?"

o Dispelling the myths of “gap year increase” taking spots for the fall 2021.

o "Should my son change his strategy because of the pandemic?"

o Sharing information that Gonzaga College Counseling has received from Admission officers at several institutions.

o How will College Virtual Visitation work for the Class of 2021?

  • College Counseling Workshop-United States Service Academy Nomination and Application Process

    Virtual
Seniors:  If you are planning to apply to a United States Academy (or thinking of applying), you MUST attend this workshop.

The application process to the US Service Academies is extremely competitive and Gonzaga has been fortunate in enrolling several young men into the Academies every year. Admissions and enrollment in the US Service Academies is a proud tradition on Eye Street!  However, the admission process involves a very intensive nomination process in addition to the application process. This session will cover complexities of the nomination process that occur early in a student’s senior year.
