Water Polo Finishes Second at Beast of the East

Last weekend, from September 22-24, varsity Water Polo competed in the Beast of East Tournament in Pennsylvania. Gonzaga had a strong showing, finishing with a record of 4-1 to earn the runner up trophy.

The Eagles defeated Episcopal Academy 16-10, Upper Merion 15-14 (in 3OT), Exeter (PA) 15-10, and Loyola Blakefield 10-7, then lost to Gilman in the Championship match 11-6.

"Beast of the East was a water polo weekend for the ages -- one of the best weekends the team has ever had.  There's no doubt to me that the reason we did so well this weekend is because of our tough loss to Loyola on Wednesday,"  said Head Coach Nick Pugliese '08. "The team took it to heart and practiced so effectively on Thursday that we were able to come into the tournament as a different, stronger, more unified group."
