Through discipline, teamwork, and grit, Gonzaga Lacrosse has become a perennial powerhouse in the highly competitive landscape of Mid-Atlantic lacrosse. In 2018, under the leadership of Head Coach Casey O’Neill, the team finished the regular season as the #1 seed in the WCAC tournament and went on to win the WCAC championship for the eighth time in the last decade.

Casey O’Neill has been coaching with the Gonzaga lacrosse program for 18 seasons—the last 11 as Head Coach, compiling an overall record of 186-46 (108-9 WCAC). Under his leadership, the Eagles have won eight WCAC championships with seven straight at one point (from 2010-2016) with a mark of 84 straight conference wins. He’s received numerous coaching awards, including WCAC Coach of the year (four times) and Washington Post All-Metropolitan Area Coach of the Year. His teams have featured 11 US Lacrosse All-Americans, 43 WCAC 1st team All-League players, 14 Washington Post First Team All Mets and over 80 players who have gone on to play lacrosse at the college level.
A 1996 graduate of Gonzaga, Casey was a multisport athlete and midfielder on the 1993 WCAC Championship-winning lacrosse team. He is a graduate of Lehigh University, where he played lacrosse and helped the Mountain Hawks to a Patriot League championship in 1999, and received the team’s “Coach’s Award” in 2000.
Coach O’Neill also serves as the Assistant Athletic Director at Gonzaga, runs the Purple Eagle Lacrosse Camps, and works with various youth lacrosse programs around the area. He is the former Chairman for the US Lacrosse Potomac Chapter and a proud member of the DC High School Lacrosse Coaches Association. Casey, his wife, Erica, and their children Cole, Chloe, and Claire live in Silver Spring, MD.
