Rugby Wins Gonzaga Rugby Classic, Xavier Up Next
Rugby hosted its 12th annual Gonzaga Rugby Classic on Saturday, April 22nd and Sunday, April 23rd. The Varsity Purple Eagles played four condensed matches over the course of the two days.
On the first day, the team defeated New Orleans Jesuit 35-10 and Staples 48-0 to advance to the Classic Semifinals. And on Sunday, Coach Baggetta's team defeated British Columbia's Shawnigan Lake 22-12. Although this year's tournament featured great international competition, Charlotte Catholic proved to be the Eagles' most formidable opponent as they advanced to the Championship game on the other side of the bracket. But Gonzaga took down the Cardinals 22-10 in the championship game to take this year's title.

Next up, Rugby will host Xavier (NY) on Saturday, April 29th, on Buchanan Field at 3:00pm. Tickets are $5 and will benefit the Father McKenna Center.
