Hitting the Big Time: Gonzaga Clock Tower featured on Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe

The Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs TV show featured Gonzaga last week! Although our clock tower definitely is not dirty, cleaning and maintaining it takes a certain specialized skill set.

Show host Mike Rowe visited Eye Street last spring to tag along as professionals from Americlock, a clock maintenance and restoration company, performed some needed repairs and inspections. The episode also featured former Gonzaga President Father Stephen Planning, S.J., a clock expert in his own right, providing some history of the clock and time-keeping in America, as well as Stephen Neill '89, Gonzaga's Chief Operating Officer.

A trained opera singer, Mike Rowe wrapped up the episode by singing in St. Al's. Although not visible on camera, Gonzaga senior John Corso '23 was playing the organ while Rowe sang.

In its 10th season, Dirty Jobs offers a window into Americans with unusual jobs, and over the years has featured everything from cheese makers to alpaca shearers. The episode featuring Gonzaga (Season 10, Episode 7 called "Manhole Rehab / Clock Caretaker") has not been fully released online yet, but can be watched wherever you stream Discovery.
