Cross Country Finishes Second in WCAC Championship

On Saturday, October 29th, Cross Country finished in 2nd place at the 2022 WCAC cross country championships, narrowly missing the title by a score of 44-47. The meet was held at Kenilworth Park, DC; since 2002, the team has finished either first or second at the championships in all but two years.

This year's team was led by individual champion Lucas Rohde '24, who took the lead in the first mile and maintained it through most of the race. Matt Podratsky '25 dueled for much of the race with two runners from DeMatha, before decisively pulling away from them in the last mile. Rohde '24 slowed a bit with 600m to go, Podratsky '25 caught up and helped him rally to finish in the lead. This was the 4th 1-2 finish for the Eagles since 2010.

Liam Thomson '23 finished in 7th, followed by Will Buckely '25 in 9th. Rounding out the varsity squad were Anthony Sarro '26, John Hirko '25, and Tim Barloon '23. Rohde '24, Podratsky '25, Thomson '23, and Buckley '25 all earned all-conference honors for the Eagles.

Next up, the Eagles will compete at the DC State Championship Saturday, November 5th at Kenilworth Park. You can find the entire schedule here.
