Crew Competes in Head Of The Charles

On Friday, October 21st, members of the Gonzaga Crew Team traveled to Boston, Massachusetts for the 57th Annual Head of the Charles Regatta. Crew entered a Youth 8, Youth 4, and for the first time ever, an Alumni 8.

The Head of the Charles Regatta is the ultimate fall rowing regatta, with crews from around the world competing in the Youth, Collegiate, Open, and Masters levels.  This years regatta featured multiple Olympic medalists from the United States, Great Britain, New Zealand and Ukraine.  

The Gonzaga Alumni 8 raced Saturday morning, competing against college alumni crews from around the United States.  Following the race, the Alumni met current team members and coaches and shared stories of their experience on the team and their lives since graduating.  

Additionally, current Harvard oarsman and Gonzaga alums Liam Downing ‘21and Ryan Link ’21 gave a tour to the team of Harvard’s historic Newell Boathouse.  

The day ended with Mass on the campus of Boston College, at the Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola, where the team met with members of the Belen Jesuit Crew team of Miami, Florida.

On Sunday, October 23rd, the Youth 4 finished 29th out of a field of 90 entries.  The finish was a significant improvement from 2021, when the four finished 34th out of a field of 90.  The Youth 8 finished 10th out of a field of 90, an improvement from the 2021 finish of 12th place.

Next up, Crew will compete at the annual Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia.
