Dolan '21 and Ries '23 named to USA Rugby Men's National Team
Congratulations to rising senior Joey Ries '23 and alum Declan Dolan '21 who were named to the U18 & U20 USA Men's Junior National Teams earlier this summer. This past spring Joey was a core member of the Varsity Purple Rugby team, helping lead them to a national championship appearance while Declan is a member of the Penn State University Rugby team.
Head Coach, Peter Bagetta said, “I am very excited and proud that Declan Dolan and Joey Ries have been selected for the USA U-20 and U-18 teams on the summer tour to the Netherlands. Declan has been working towards this goal of representing the US as an age-grade player since he first came to Gonzaga."
Coach Bagetta continued, "He (Declan) has worked incredibly hard to improve each and every year and biggest thing I’m proud of is how he has matured as both a player and a young man into the excellent player and inspirational leader he now is. Joey being selected for the USA U-18 is the result of his dedication and work ethic, especially this past season when we asked him to learn a new position, scrum half. He put in countless hours of work on his own and to be recognized for that work by his selection to the U-18 team is pretty special."
The U20s defeated Belgium on July 9th, 55-7
The U20s defeated Czech Republic on July 13th, 60-19
