Students Enjoy Classics Day!

On Tuesday, March 15, students taking Latin sat for the National Latin Exam, and then enjoyed an afternoon of activities celebrating Roman culture.

Students had the opportunity to showcase their academic work, compete in academic and athletic competitions, and participate in Roman army drills using shields they built in Mr. Cardozo's Latin I class. The day ended with a Triumphal parade honoring the past and recognizing the day's victors.

Headmaster Mr. Tom Every praised Mr. Cardozo and Mr. Cowan -- Gonzaga's two Classical Languages teachers and the organizers of the day's festivities -- for reinvigorating the Classics department on Eye Street. "Due to their knowledge, teaching acumen, energy and excitement around the subject matter, the Classics program at Gonzaga has not only survived, but it is thriving!"

We hope you enjoy this short video and photos from the day.
