Football Beats McNamara, Will Face St. John's in 100th Meeting

The Varsity Football Eagles defeated McNamara 14-0 in Forestville, MD on October 30 to earn a playoff spot in the upcoming WCAC playoffs. It was a hard fought game on a beautiful, but windy day. After missing a field goal from 35 yards in the first quarter, senior kicker James Miller nailed kicks of 44 and 41 yards to give the Eagles a 6-0 halftime lead. After giving the ball over to the Mustangs on the 50 yard late in the third quarter, the defense made a crucial fourth down stop (their second of the day) to maintain the lead.

On the ensuing drive, sophomore quarterback Aidan Conrath led the Eagles down the field to score the only touchdown of the day - a one-yard touchdown run from junior running back Joseph Hammond, Jr. Conrath connected with junior wide receiver Brendan Lee on the two point conversion.

Senior linebacker Kadari Machen and senior defensive end Jordan Shuler turned in outstanding performances in the defensive shutout and junior punter Joey Ries had three punts that pinned the Mustangs inside the 20 yard line.

The team will face St. John's in Week 10's rivalry game - the 100th meeting between the schools in the Modern Era (click here for a history of the game and livestream information) on November, 5 at 6:30 PM on Buchanan Field. To kick off the GGBSJ Week, each senior Eagle presented a jersey to one of his favorite Faculty or Staff members to show his appreciation for them and for all they do on Eye Street. The playoff seeding is now set: just as the season played out in 2018, regardless of the outcome of Friday's game, Gonzaga will face St. John's next week on Military Road at 1pm in the WCAC Semifinal.
