News of Alumni: Luke McCaleb '16

On Thursday, September 23, Luke McCaleb '16 was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps during a ceremony on the Alumni Pavilion overlooking Buchanan Field. Before Gonzaga President Father Joe Lingan, SJ shared an opening prayer, Col (Ret.) Joe Murray ‘85 welcomed everyone to the ceremony. McCaleb's 2nd Lieutenant citation was read by Col (Ret.) Art White. Following the reading, McCaleb's parents (Meghan and Scott '84) pinned his rank insignia on his uniform.

McCaleb then took his oath of office from Col. Murray and did his first salute with Sgt (Ret.) Chris Finlay, father of Ryan Finlay ‘16 and Ben Finlay ‘19. Here is the complete ceremony:

"I would like to express how honored I was to be able to do my commissioning, the proudest day of my life, at Gonzaga. Having the football team there was incredible and just shows how Gonzaga is different from anywhere else in the country," said McCaleb. "Just like Col Murray said to open the ceremony, it’s such a special place, and I learned many of the lessons that have shaped my life and led me to the Marine Corps between those sidelines on Eye Street. It was really just an unbelievable night, and I’m so fortunate to have so many great people supporting me."

Congratulations Luke!
