Gonzaga Alumni Association Holds First Meeting of the 2021-2022 School Year

The Gonzaga Alumni Association held its first meeting of the 2021-2022 school year on Tuesday, September 14.  Gonzaga President Father Lingan, SJ '75 opened the meeting with a few words of introduction and provided an update on the school.

The group thanked outgoing president Matt Grace '01 who served as the head of the Alumni Association from 2019 to 2021, and also welcomed new president Chris Hicks '85. In addition, Father Lingan presented Ned Cotter '58 with the Fr. Novotny, SJ Service Award -- an honor he was given during a virtual ceremony last year; this meeting marked the first time Ned has been back on campus since the beginning of the pandemic.

Each year, the Gonzaga Alumni Association honors an alumnus with the Father Novotny Service Award. Created in memory of former Gonzaga President Father Allen Novotny, SJ, the award recognizes an alumnus who shows an extraordinary commitment to community service and Jesuit ideals. During the virtual presentation last spring, Dave Dugan '98, Gonzaga's Vice President of Alumni and Advancement, said; "We’re very excited about this year’s recipient, Mr. Ned Cotter of the outstanding Class of 1958. Ned is their Class Captain, and he has led his class by being a staple at the Gonzaga Alumni Association's four annual meetings, year in and year out. Within a day or two of each meeting, Ned -- who takes copious notes --  sends a report to his classmates. It should be of no surprise, due to Ned’s devotion to keeping his former classmates engaged, that the Class of 1958 has led Gonzaga alumni classes in class participation in the Gonzaga Fund for several years. Ned and his classmates surpass the "Gold Standard" of giving -- 40%-- each year."

Congratulations again to Ned! And thank you to the alumni who joined us for the meeting. The next Gonzaga Alumni Association meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 9 in the Arrupe Commons.
