Football Shuts Out Ryken

The varsity football Eagles remained unbeaten with a strong win over St. Mary's Ryken in the first home night game of the season, 19-0. Coach Trivers's team is now 3-0 and remains the top-ranked team in the area by the Washington Post.

After a hard fought first quarter, kicker James Miller '22 made a 25 yard field goal for the first points of the game. And with just under 5 minutes to play in the half, quarterback Carson Petitbon '23 connected with wide receiver Brendan Lee '23 on a 43 yard touchdown to give the Eagles a 10-0 leading heading into the break. Midway through the third quarter, a tip pass by defensive lineman Isaiah Neal '23 lead to a diving interception by linebacker and captain Kadari Machen '22. On the ensuing possession, Petitbon threw his second touchdown of the night - connecting with tightend and captain Nate Kurisky '22 on a 24 yard strike to make the score 16-0.

Ryken got the the Gonzaga 1 yard just moments into the 4th quarter, but the Eagle Defense stood tall keeping the Knights out of the endzone on four straight plays. Defensive lineman Nick Keenan '22 made the final stop on the drive to keep the shutout intact. Miller added a late 42-yard field goal and the Gonzaga faithful enjoyed the win under the lights. Linebacker Markeith Hogan '23 had an outstanding game on Defense and Special Teams, while punter Joey Ries '23 also turned in a strong performance.
